Description: Among many coffee historians, the rise of specialty coffee is said to be attributed to a gentleman named Alfred H. Peet who founded Peet’s Coffee & Tea in Berkeley, California in 1966. We’ve often heard Alfred Peet to be described as “the Dutchman who taught America how to drink coffee!” We’ll be sharing interesting stories about Peet’s Coffee, the popularity of gourmet coffee and the rise of specialty coffee in the U.S. We’ll also be talking about the growth of custom coffee roasting, the interest in darker blends and how Peet’s Coffee served as a model for other roasters including Starbucks.
