Coffee in Food; Sweet and Savory
posted on August 01, 2017
I believe two things; bacon makes things taste better and so does coffee. I’ve added bacon to countless things. It has topped my green bean cassarole, found its way onto barbecued hot dogs with peanut butter (it sounds gross but its sooo good), and even become part of breakfast sweet dishes like Belgian waffles with strips of bacon added down first under the poured batter in the waffle iron. The syrup and waffles and bacon go together like peanut butter and jelly.
I am discovering coffee is the same way. Add it to sweet dishes to add boldness and rich flavor, or to everyday savory dishes to give a new twist. I’ve made my favorite creme brulee even better with a splash of coffee liquor, made coffee desserts richer by adding ground dark coffee to the mixture before baking, and I am ready to start experimenting with a new bbq sauce with coffee. Coffee is great served in a cup but makes itself a unique delicious contributor to everyday recipes.
